In 1997, the duo signed to Relativity Records and released their debut album, Changing the Game, two years later. Infamous Syndicate eventually left Relativity Records and parted ways, but Shawnna continued to perfect her craft and was signed to Disturbing ThaPeace Records/Def Jam.
Shawnna appeared on Ludacris’ single “What’s Your Fantasy.” She also appeared on the remix to Mariah Carey’s “Loverboy” from the movie soundtrack for Glitter, for which she went on to shoot a music video alongside Mariah Carey, Ludacris, and Da Brat. Shawnna
appeared on a Disturbing Tha Peace compilation album and then released her debut album Worth Tha Weight in 2002. Production for the album came from the likes of Kanye West, Timbaland, Just Blaze, and Jermaine Dupri and featured artists included Twista, Ludacris, and N.O.R.E. Worth Tha Weight was met with praise from both critics and fans and helped establish Shawnna and her characteristic style.
In 2006, Shawnna released Block Music, which was her last album with Disturbing Tha Peace Records/Def Jam. Block Music found Shawnna further refining the style she had developed for herself and spawned her hit single “Gettin’ Some.” Later that year, Shawnna announced an amicable departure from her record label, saying that she was no longer part of Disturbing Tha Peace.
After leaving Disturbing Tha Peace/Def Jam, Shawnna partner up and started her own movement, Money Over Everything Entertainment and began collaborating with artists such as Yo Gotti, Gangster Boo, Trina, and Gucci Mane. In 2010, Shawnna signed a deal with T-Pain’s Nappy Boy Entertainment for a short stint.
Shawnna is focused on maintaining the brand she has established without compromising her musical reputation. Unlike many other artists today, Shawnna is determined to not change her artistic focus and sound, a fact evident on her 2011 mixtape, Bitch Like Me,hosted by DJ Dirty Money. Then with a follow up mixtape for 2012 M.O.E. Compilation Vol 1 also hosted by Dj Dirty Money. Armed with her distinct rapping style and a strong core fan-base, Shawnna continues to garner respect from Hip-Hop fans and other artists.
