Plaza

PLAzA is the Italo-electro-lounge-'80s-drum-machine-funk spin-off project of Johan Churchill (formerly of Tres Lingerie). The sounds of Plaza have been slowly forming since Johan lived in NYC. It was there that he discovered a love for collecting '80s boogie records. After hunting down his high school music idol Tim "Love" Lee, who he worked with for a spell, Johan set off for San Francisco with only a Roland JX-8P, Korg Poly-61 synthesizer, and big dreams. Once in the Foggy City, Johan teamed up with Jordan Presnick as Tres Lingerie, a musical romance that lasted two years. Jordan moved on from TL, and Johan morphed into PLAzA: a mix of studio finesse, raw drum machine sound, smatterings of midi'ed synth licks, and uplifting chord progressions. His first 7-inch, "FLIPPHONE", is out now on Sound Boutique Records (Oakland, CA). Look out for another forthcoming EP on Voltaire Records.
