Recording: Teaching Truth in the Era of Book Bans, Date TBA

Across the United States, local and state initiatives are attempting to regulate what can and cannot be taught to students, school board meetings are debating over students' access to books particularly by Black and LGBTQ+ authors, and elected leaders are threatening educators from teaching the truth about structural racism. Notably, politicians like Florida's Gov. DeSantis are claiming that teaching truth would create a "woke dumpster fire". In the face of harassment, educators are standing strong with students, parents, authors, and their communities to raise voice to the dangers of preventing students from understanding the full scope and significance of white supremacy in American history. This panel will introduce courageous educators to discuss why teaching truth is essential for all.
