The recent Hollywood productions detailing the rise and fall of prominent startup founders, from Uber to WeWork to Theranos, mark the official end of the leadership paradigms that have dominated the tech industry for the last 10+ years. Employees and investors now expect founders to model a different kind of leadership: one that leads with empathy and emotional intelligence, not brute force. As one recent New York Times headline put it, “No More Working for Jerks!” What does the new leadership paradigm mean for the future of work, the relationship between employers and their employees, and DE&I efforts? What advice should the founders of the future heed if they hope to be successful?
