Leaders of New Constituencies for Criminal Justice
Criminal justice reform has unprecedented attention, with bipartisan efforts and high levels of public engagement on the issue. Even as directly impacted people are becoming a focal point of the conversation, there are gaps in the recognition of important new constituencies that are organizing and moving the needle to change policies that not only reduce incarceration but improve safety. We will showcase leaders in the organizing of these new constituencies: 1) Crime survivors from communities most impacted by crime, violence and incarceration who support reducing incarceration, and instead focusing on prevention, rehabilitation and trauma recovery; 2) The over 70 million Americans living with a past criminal conviction who face barriers to jobs, housing, and other keys to stability.
