Screening for Heart Disease with the Apple Watch
Two years ago, Cedars-Sinai Health System upgraded its patient portal to allow patients to link their personal/wearable devices with their electronic medical record. Over 2500 patients have taken advantage of this capability to link their devices and have uploaded many millions of pulse values as well as other data. Cedars-Sinai is using the pulse data to assess the quality and consistency of the personal device data, compare it to clinical documented values in the patient's chart, and screen patients for unsuspected cardiac pathology. The panelists, Drs. Duncan and Pevnick, have a broad background in clinical care, technology, and informatics.
