If you had to define the history of Fotogramas in one sentence, it would be "a one-way road, full speed without return." This young band is constantly evolving.
Fotogramas was born in 2010, created by Daniel Vargas (aka Ciboulette) as a solo project when he decided to dust off some old songs that had previously only known the walls of his bedroom. Daniel said: "I wanted my songs to be part of a visual project, but the visuals never became anything concrete and only stayed in my imagination, which was how the name of the project came about: Fotogramas" (which translates to ‘movie frames’).
Later that same year, Daniel digitally launched the first work of the band, "Instrumental EP;" five instrumental songs that blended sounds of folk indie with noisy shoegaze guitars.
After receiving rave reviews of that first album and playing shows regularly in the city of Valparaiso, Chile in 2012, the project took a more serious turn. Fotogramas was invited to join a new independent music movement that was brewing in the city, which would later become "Sello Recolector," the band´s current record label.
In early 2013, Daniel invited Cristian Pereira to join the project on bass, beginning a new phase of the group as a duo working on music arrangements and preparing for what would be the second album, entitled "Otoñal" (‘Fall’). This album was recorded in the "Whisper Deafening" studio in Valparaiso with the help of sound engineer Pablo Rivas. In November 2013, Cristian Fieldhouse was added on guitar, changing the structure of the band once again. This addition gave the music more weight and power, as compared to its original sound.
"Otoñal" was officially released in March 2014. To promote the new album, Fotogramas played several live shows and quickly created a large, loyal following. The album achieved widespread dissemination and various Chilean and international media outlets hailed Fotogramas as one of the most promising bands in the current Chilean Dreampop/Shoegaze musical scene.
