Mexican Slang attempts to strike a balance between clarity and chaos. In the past two years, the 3-piece has cemented an unmistakable presence in Toronto's underground music community.
After countless years of struggling to form a band, Lee took on Mexican Slang as a solo recording project from her attic, releasing her first EP online in the summer of 2012. After a chance meeting on the sidewalk outside of a show, Lee enlisted Jimmy Tony (Dilly Dally) on bass and Den Holm (Odonis Odonis) on drums in late 2012. Since then, Mexican Slang has played live at numerous venues across the city and on tour in the United States. Most notably as an official act at this year's NXNE & CMJ festivals and alongside international bands such as Shonen Knife, The Wytches and Perfect Pussy.

After signing with Buzz Records, 2014 saw the release of a fifth EP, 'Inside The Velvet Castle' which garnered attention from Stereogum, SPIN, Brooklyn Vegan & Noisey. Described as "loud Suicide-style lo-fi bedroom recorded jaunts that hypnotize the brain and ears", Mexican Slang elicits comparison to the likes of Helium and "Babes in Toyland meets Ty Segall". Lee's primary focus has been coalescing the power of extremes, by juxtaposing heavy guitars with compelling melodies and contrasting droning psychedelia and noisy garage rock with moments of reverberant serenity. Though drawing personal influence from artists such The Melvins, The Cramps and Rowland S. Howard, Lee is poised to create a distinctive sound all her own.
With the support of Buzz Records, Mexican Slang plans to record a full-length album and tour Canada and the US in the upcoming year. Their haunting noise pop aesthetic and captivating live shows have set them apart, creating a far-reaching, eager and devoted fan base. As for Lee's poignant lyrical depth, face-melting guitar and impassioned productivity, there seems to be no end in sight.
