Los Rakas

8792

Los Rakas is comprised of cousins Raka Rich & Raka Dun, pioneering Panamanians by way of the Bay Area on the frontier of a new Latin urban sound in America. Known for their fresh mix of hip-hop, plena, reggae and dancehall music with both Spanish and English lyricism, Los Rakas represent the cutting edge of Pan-American flows.

Taking their name from the Panamanian word “Rakataka” – a slur used to describe someone from the ghetto – Los Rakas have set out to both inspire fellow “Rakas” by empowering them to become successful despite their circumstances, turning the current hip-hop world on its head. They are part of a growing movement of artists creating new spaces for true urban music to flourish worldwide in the Internet Era.

Los Rakas have had a busy 2013, becoming the first artists on Shade 45/Sirius "Sway In The Morning" to perform the freestyle segment in English & Spanish, appearing on huge festivals like "Rock The Bells" and "Central Park SummerStage," placing the song "Hot" on the biggest video game in the world EA Sport's FIFA 14, and collaborating with Major Lazer on the song "Desorden" (released on Mad Decent) & most recently, rap super producer Scoop Deville (Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg). They are also the first independent artist to have their logo on a major brand sneaker - the Raka Puma - and are part of the Converse Cons 2014 global campaign with artists like Ratking, Trinidad James and more.

Their debut album "El Negrito Dun Dun & Ricardo" - a double disc album exploring Raka Dun's semi-autobiographical immigrant story set to fresh hip-hop/dancehall flavor and Raka Rich's sexy dance music album about a young man who wants it all - will be out in Spring 2014 on Universal Music.
