Moon Honey
Baton Rouge, Louisiana may not be on the map as a place to catch extravagant rock shows, but the city’s wild child, Moon Honey, has relentlessly pushed through in pursuit of their psychedelic dreams—namely their new album, Hand-Painted Dream Photographs. Its sound is constructed of lush, multi-layered, orchestral arrangements, but lyrically compositions show elements of narrative poetry and colorful streams of consciousness. The sonically thick, attention demanding melodies are described best by The New York Times: "The guitarist Andrew Martin, the keyboardist Jeffrey Livingston and the drummer Jermaine Butler back the high, quivery vocals (and lyrics) of Jessica Ramsey in songs that segue amid folky-baroque intricacy; power-trio stomps; odd-meter excursions; and pealing, crystalline multiple-guitar constructions. Moon Honey’s repertory could plausibly be collaborations among Joanna Newsom, the Mars Volta and Grizzly Bear."
