Originally formed in Austin, TX in winter 2005 by Troupe Gammage (vocals/keyboard), Nick Hurt (guitar/vocals), and Jake Stewart (drums), the band now known as SPEAK was cemented with the addition of Joey Delahoussaye (bass/vocals) in 2008.

With roots in first the dreamy pop of Radiohead and Sigur Rós, then the electronic pastiche of Beck and Cut Copy, the band received a crash course in rock while recording their first record with producer Frenchie Smith (The Dandy Warhols, Trail of Dead, The Darkness), resulting in the multichromatic 2011 debut I Believe In Everything (Modern Art). Surrounding the release was an Austin Music Award for Best New Band in 2010 (presented to the group by members of the Talking Heads) and appearances at the SXSW, Voodoo, Austin City Limits, and Fun Fun Fun Festivals.

In addition to opening shows in Austin for musical exemplars like Cage the Elephant, Tigercity, and Royal Bangs, the band have had the opportunity to learn from and befriend a series of live favorites on the road including Tally Hall, Jukebox the Ghost, and, most recently, labelmates Miniature Tigers, Geographer, and The Chain Gang of 1974.

Inspired by the grit and "anything goes" mentality of modern hip hop production but never at the expense of melody, SPEAK are currently hard at work producing their next album (due in 2013) at their home studio in Austin.
