((SOUNDER)) is the music project of Mike Aho, who splits his time as a
musician, visual artist and video director. In recent years Aho has
directed videos for Mando Diao, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy and RTX in
addition to creating video and commercial work used as international
campaigns for Volcom Clothing, Ride Snowboards and Roger Skateboards.
Aho is the co-creator and director of the cult-status surrealist
skateboard comedy series, ‘The Internet Shack’ for Thrasher Magazine,
which features Michael Sieben and Will Oldham, among others. He lives
in Austin, Texas and has shown his visual art and performed music all
over the United States, London, Tokyo, Peru and France.
The music of ((SOUNDER)) has been featured on NPR, performed live on
Fuel TV’s ‘Daily Habit’, licensed for several network television shows
and internationally distributed skateboard movies and was most
recently featured as the score of indie-feature film ‘I Like You’,
directed by Jamie Heinrich. ((SOUNDER))’s current line up features
Aho, Tom Hoff and J Lee (American Analog Set), and Travis Cooper.
Their music is produced by Matt Wignall (Cold War Kids, Mando Diao).
((SOUNDER)) was created in 2005 as a two-piece when Aho was living in
Los Angeles and Costa Mesa, CA. Their first release, ‘There is
Another Sun Clouded Over With Meticulous Care’ (2006), featured 500
signed and numbered copies by visual artist Mel Kadel, who created a
hand-made book featuring an illustration for every song on the record
and 8 different album covers.
Volcom Entertainment released their second album, ‘Good Things Come
and Go Like Bad Things’ (2008) to rave reviews from NPR, Paper
Magazine, LA Record, mtv.com and many more. For ‘Good Things…’ Aho
collaborated on 5 music videos with visual artists Michael Sieben,
Travis Millard, Mel Kadel, Dave Bryant and Todd Bratrud. The video
series has over 200,000 views online and was a MySpace homepage
feature during its release.
In 2010 and 2011 Aho self-released two 2 EP’s, ‘Stop That Dreaming’
and ‘If We Don’t Get Better’, and most recently a limited edition baby
blue vinyl 7” with Mt. Inadale Records. He has recently begun work on
the next full-length album due out in 2012; the release will be
accompanied by a short film directed by Aho.
