Minneapolis/St. Paul based energetic, garage, punk, noise Japanese duo the Birthday Suits formed in spring of 2005 and released their debut album Cherry Blue later that year. After the release of Cherry Blue, it did not take long for Birthday Suits to be recognized by music fans and critics in the Twin Cities. They were named the best live artist of 2006 by Minneapolis/St. Paul alternative weekly paper the City Pages.

After receiving acclaim locally Birthday Suits began to receive praise from music publications across the country. The Seattle Weekly proclaimed Birthday Suits to be, “an utterly explosive live band who are perfectly capable of restoring one's faith in rock 'n' roll with their sweaty, fiercely committed performances.” The band would go on to receive more national press.

Vice/Noisey (Ezra Morris) praised the band by stating “Thundering out of the basements of Minneapolis, this experimental garage act is a welcome addition to the Twin Cities pantheon. With only two members, the band packs more live wire energy into their drum and guitar assault than most groups can muster with three or four times the members. They push everything into the red, especially when it comes to their cathartic on-stage performances, screeching in at the maximum volume with gravity-defying acrobatics” Birthday Suits continue to create a buzz as they cross the United States and Europe twice garnering an enthusiastic following where ever they go.
