Voltaire Twins
Voltaire Twins are a Perth-based indie dance quartet consisting of lead vocalists/synthesiser players Jaymes and Tegan, with drummer Matt and bass synthesiser player Jack.
The band’s latest single Animalia was launched at a sell-out show in Perth in August 2011, and soon gained high rotation on Triple J, Fbi and RTRFM in Australia. It was released in the US in November 2011 debuted at #36 on the USA college radio charts.
The accompanying music video by Perth film maker Ben Young took out Gold at the ACA awards and was voted the 7th most popular video of the year by viewers of ABCTV’s Rage.
The band has toured Australia extensively, including a three week sold-out stint supporting Tim & Jean on their Like What album tour in May 2011.
In October 2010, Voltaire Twins travelled to New York City for the CMJ Music Marathon, where they performed with The Jezabels, Philadelphia Grand Jury, Darren Hanlon and Daniel Lanois.
The band has received remixes from European disco producers Lifelike (France), Moullinex (Portugal/Germany) and JBAG (France/UK), and their track D.I.L. was featured on French tastemaker label Kitsune’s 2010 Kitsune x Ponystep compilation CD and vinyl release.
The band has enjoyed widespread international blog attention from the likes of Lost at E Minor, The Coolhunter and Nylon Magazine. The Moullinex remix of Romulus reached the Hype Machine’s top ten most downloaded, blogged and listened to tracks in December 2011.
The Voltaire Twins story began in 2008, when the then two-piece, consisting of siblings Jaymes and Tegan won the Triple J Unearthed Parklife competition.
The then-two-piece band was swept up onto the festival circuit, playing at Parklife, St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, Groovin the Moo, Good Vibrations, Summadayze and One Movement for Music.
The band soon attracted offers to support Ladytron, Maximo Park, Midnight Juggernauts and Art vs Science and, more recently, Gold Fields, Alpine and Bleeding Knees Club.
