Peter Keup
Peter Keup is a historian and researcher specializing in Cold War history. He currently works for an NGO dedicated to bringing attention to the issues faced by victims of East German communist oppression, and ensuring these concerns remain part of the political discourse today. Recently, he contributed to a research project investigating the use of forced labor by political prisoners in former East Germany, revealing how international companies such as Ikea and Aldi benefited from this exploitative system. His doctoral thesis, "How Victims Became Perpetrators: The Transformation of Political Prisoners into State Collaborators in GDR Custody," offers a comprehensive analysis of the methods employed by the East German State Security (Stasi) to manipulate and control prisoners.
