Data Surveillance and Cold War Tactics in Today's World
Check out the documentary feature, “The Spies Among Us.”
Before the digital revolution, East Germany built the largest surveillance state ever known using hundreds of thousands of informants. The goal was to root out political dissent. The effect on its society was chilling and still haunts Germany 35 years later. These same Cold-War-era tactics are at play today, now supercharged by our interconnected digital world. Lucia Moses, Senior Correspondent at Business Insider, joins the filmmakers of THE SPIES AMONG US and the film's main subject, Peter Keup to discuss how the film's investigation acts as a warning of what's at stake for societies today.
