Lindsay Bailey is a cross-border entertainment lawyer with practices based in Austin and Vancouver, specializing in the dynamic intersections of music, art, and technology.
Lindsay is deeply immersed in the nuances of the music business, guiding artists and music-tech innovators through the evolving legal and commercial challenges of the industry.
She negotiates recording, publishing, and distribution deals, advises on intellectual property protection and brand-building; and provides forward-thinking counsel on licensing, partnerships and various collaborative opportunities. Lindsay supports her clients in navigating a rapidly changing music and broader entertainment landscape with the opportunities presented by emerging technologies. Her expertise extends to legacy planning for artists and estates, ensuring that creative legacies are preserved and optimized by such emerging technologies and platforms. Her dedication to her clients is rooted in a holistic understanding of the music ecosystem, where she aligns legal strategy with the creative and business aspirations of those she represents.
Lindsay works with a diverse array of creatives, entrepreneurs, and organizations—from musicians and music-tech pioneers to artists, cultural institutions, foundations, digital innovators, and the private equity and venture capital funds that support them. She developed her cross-border practice to empower creatives in expand their reach globally, enabling them to maximize opportunities across North America and beyond. As a strategic advisor and ally to her artists and their teams, Lindsay works incredibly closely with them throughout all stages of their careers – from emerging artists to legacy figures.
Lindsay’s multidisciplinary background informs her unique perspective and approach. With a foundation in art history from U.B.C.’s Department of Art History, Visual Art, and Theory, she has cultivated a deep understanding of the cultural and creative ecosystems on both sides of the border. From 2015 to 2021, she served as a board member of the B.C. Arts Council, overseeing a $45 million annual grant budget for artists and creative organizations, while chairing the Governance and Strategic Planning Committees. Currently she serves as Chair of the Entertainment and Sports Law Section of the Austin Bar Association, sits on the Council of the Texas Entertainment and Sports Law Section of the Texas Bar Association, and chairs the Governance Committee of the board of The Polygon Gallery (Vancouver). She also contributes her expertise to advisory boards such as Sonic Guild (U.S.) and the Technical Apparel Program at The Wilson Design School at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (Vancouver). Lindsay regularly serves on juries for notable awards such as the Junos, the Western Canadian Music Awards, and Austin’s Art in Public Places, among others. She is also a sought-after lecturer, presenting on critical issues affecting the sectors she serves at conferences such as MusicBiz, Americana Fest and others.
Beyond her professional life, Lindsay’s passion for art and music continues to shape her personal pursuits. As an abject art nerd and music lover, she ties in as much musically oriented travel as she does for art. Raised on the far northwest coast of British Columbia by a stunning mountainous lake, as a hiker and naturalist, she is always in search of great waters to swim in.
