‘Spaceproofing’ Food: Are We Ready to Dine on Mars?
What will we be eating in space or from space? As space exploration continues, international and national agencies are assessing ways to produce food in space that resists microgravity and meets astronauts' nutritional needs. A regenerative food system in orbit could relieve pressure on Earth. Space manufacturing plants powered by renewable energy could replace energy-to-food production on land. As space missions grow longer, ensuring a stable, nutritious food supply will be key. Let's discuss how we can get ready for life in space by starting with one of human basic needs: food consumption.
