The Studio Model in Venture: The Good, the Bad and the Complicated
If you’re an investor thinking about incubating a company within the parameters of your fund or if you are a founder or operator thinking about starting a company with a VC firm as a partner then this panel is for you. We will discuss best practices for this newly popular, but often misunderstood, art of incubating. Incubation effectively refers to the act of a VC firm building a company internally and then hiring outside operators to take the company to market and scale it to exit. This comes with benefits and perils for both the VCs and entrepreneurs. Equity splits, division of labor, and strategy alignment can create minefields that must be navigated delicately.
