Are We Looking in the Right Places for Greenhouse Gases?
The advent of emissions monitoring technology—from space, aircraft, and ground techniques—has allowed the international community to understand emissions sources more completely than ever before. Yet global policymaking has focused on emissions from the energy sector, overlooking other significant sources like landfills. Harvard research has shown that methane emissions from landfills are 51% higher than EPA estimates. What are the sources of those emissions? How can we mitigate them? This session draws on data from emissions monitoring satellites to identify solutions for the climate community.
