Building a Home for Superheroes: Architecture for Children
The Brotherhood Sister Sol center in Harlem is a bold, pan-African facility designed to empower and inspire our next generation of superheroes. A first-of-its-kind 100% Community Education space and award-winning design project, the BroSis building blends elements of the neighboring 100-year-old brownstones, along with modern Mozambican tiles and striking channel glass to create the perfect learning lair for the children of Harlem, NY. This session will explore how this groundbreaking project, entirely created for children and built within budgetary constraints that halt most projects in their tracks, can foster identity and agency in underserved communities, offering a blueprint for designers to create impactful spaces that serve both people and place.
