SAMWOY at Chess Club
Montrealer SamWoy’s Even Sad Boys Like To Have Fun is a dizzying leap forward. At times, evocative of bands like IDLES and Fontaines D.C. in harnessing wild energy living on the bleeding edge of post-punk, the project’s Pacific Northwest roots also put it in constant conversation with grunge and skate punk, while gritty hip-hop tinged beats and throbbing bass flirt with classical strings and lush synths for an ambience that can shift in the blink of an eye.
