Speakeasy Kabaret

Hien, a Budapest-born Vietnamese singer/producer/sound-designer based in Brooklyn, defies convention with her work.
Growing up, Hien learned Hungarian folk songs in school, and also listened to her grandparents—who were cải lương musicians—perform traditional Vietnamese music in Hà Nội. Later, she honed her craft at Berklee College of Music on a full-tuition scholarship, broadening her musical horizons.
Today, Hien's sound is a blend of soulful vocals and ethereal electronic beats, creating a distinct style of left-field pop. Her versatility has taken her to stages across Europe, Asia, and the United States, as well as starring roles in musicals like Miss Saigon and SIX. She's been named one of Glamour’s “Women of the Year,” and showcased at SXSW festival. Despite her diverse experiences, Hien seamlessly integrates these varied influences into her unique sonic world. Her latest EP, Bloom (2021), funded by the New York Foundation for the Arts, has garnered attention from Nowness Asia, Earmilk, Ones to Watch, and Billboard Indonesia.
