OG Ron C
OG Ron C, born Ronald Coleman in Houston, Texas, is a legendary DJ, producer, and pioneer in the chopped and screwed music movement. He emerged in the 1990s as part of Houston’s underground hip-hop scene, gaining widespread recognition for his skill in remixing songs by slowing them down and adding signature effects like chops and scratches. This style, originally created by the late DJ Screw, became a defining element of Houston hip-hop culture.
Early Career & Influence
OG Ron C first gained attention as a DJ and mixtape creator, working with local Houston artists and refining his chopped and screwed techniques. He co-founded Swishahouse alongside Michael “5000” Watts, helping to launch the careers of notable artists like Slim Thug, Paul Wall, and Chamillionaire. The label became a major force in Southern hip-hop, and Ron C’s mixtapes were crucial in spreading the sound beyond Houston.
The Chopstars & Chopped Not Slopped
In 2008, OG Ron C founded The Chopstars, a DJ collective dedicated to preserving and evolving the chopped and screwed movement.
