The debut album from Joe P, Garden State Vampire mostly came to life very late at night in his New Jersey basement, where the singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist often spent hours on end dreaming up songs that follow their own charmed and reckless logic. “At some point my sleep schedule was so flipped that I was never getting any sunlight. After a while it made me feel crazy, but there’s something great about losing myself in the process and feeling like I can do whatever I want, because there’s no one else around.”

Mainly produced by Parella—a lifelong musician who plays guitar, bass, drums, keys, and synth on the LP—Garden State Vampire centers on the frenetic form of alt-rock he’s brought to the stage in headlining multiple tours and opening for Cold War Kids, beabadoobee, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, and more. Along with his AAA radio #1 hit “Off My Mind,” the album brings his unruly yet sophisticated musicality to strangely poignant songs like “Birthday Baby (The Girl with No Smile),” a wistful collision of garage-punk and symphonic pop.
