David Bay
Comic relief brings a moment of lightness to serious or tense situations – a classic pattern in literature and film, embodied by humorous characters like Chandler from Friends. In challenging times, we all need such moments of escape. With his new EP "Comic Relief", David Bay aims to create exactly that.
The songs blend an organic yet modern approach to indie, disco, and house music, reflecting David’s roots: growing up in an indie band and running a disco-house label. After two edit EPs and singles with classic instrumentation, this release bridges both worlds – music that feels like indie but carries a house beat.
The focus track "<3 Beat" starts with cinematic soundscapes evolving into driving basslines and drums reminiscent of LCD Soundsystem’s indietronic vibes. Lush falsetto vocals and soothing keys add depth to the track, which explores the feeling of knowingly sticking with someone who’s playing you.
Supported by Solomun, Purple Disco Machine, and SG Lewis, David Bay’s second original EP Comic Relief dropped on December 15 via Zissou Records. More music and collaborations are coming in 2024 – because finding your voice is an ongoing process. Why not share it along the way?
