SunSp.t is Joe MacPhail’s musical brand. A live SunSp.t show incorporates keyboards, vocals, and a beat machine. Songs, Compositions, Improvisations and Beats. Joe is deeply inspired by the history and evolution of American music, and by folk music traditions from around the world. Genres are combined and shifted to create imagined musical dialogues across time and space.

The live SunSp.t show moves between feel-good Funk Grooves and heart-forward Impressionistic ballads about love and grief. Instrumental Scottish Hip Hop leads to Soul ballads about stepping on spiders. Covers include New Orleans and Roots, Modern Indie, and Jazz/Neo-Soul/Instrumental Hip Hop. Every SunSp.t set is different, but all include beautiful Piano interludes, Hammond B3 workouts, and Synthesizers that wail like guitars.

Joe MacPhail has worked as a session musician on over a hundred albums in North Carolina, and performed with dozens of bands. Currently a member of Diali Cissokho & Kaira Ba, Dreamroot, T Gold, XOXOK, The Back Pocket, Country Soul Songbook w/Kamara Thomas and Kym Register, Turnabout Players, and Oblations.
