Beyond the Hype: Policy for Keeping AI in Check

That escalated quickly! In 2023, the U.S. saw a surge in AI policy initiatives, culminating in the White House Executive Order on AI development and the Office of Management and Budget draft guidance on AI governance for federal agencies. A race is underway to implement these, with the administration swimming in overlapping memos, directives, and policies. As we head into the new year, we must ask: was this enough? How do we channel these into tangible impact? Our panel aims to assess the effectiveness of these measures, particularly in addressing AI's impact on human rights and bias.
