The core of the earth is 6000 degrees Celsius - the same temperature as the surface of the sun - and anywhere in the world if you drill deep enough, you reach temperatures far beyond what we need to produce baseload clean energy. This abundant and ubiquitous energy resource beneath our feet is known as geothermal energy, and geothermal in all its forms, from direct use heat to electricity production, has been described as a sleeping clean energy giant. So what will it take to scale geothermal energy from gigawatts to terawatts globally in the coming years, and who will be the players in the coming green drilling boom? This session will begin with an overview of what’s new and now in next generation geothermal, followed by a panel discussion featuring three leading voices working to scale geothermal through entrepreneurship, industry collaboration, and policy.
