Barry Thomas Smitherman

Barry Smitherman is the Chairman, President & Co-Founder of the Texas Geothermal Energy Alliance (TXGEA). He is also an adjunct professor of Energy Law at The University of Texas Law School. Barry has spent the last two decades in the Texas energy space as Chairman of both the Texas Railroad Commission and the Public Utility Commission of Texas, a partner in a Houston-based law firm, and an active investor in energy companies. He has served on numerous for profit, not for profit, and governmental boards. Barry holds degrees from Harvard, UT, and Texas A&M. Prior to public service, he spent 16 years in the investment banking world. He is married, father of four, with two adorable (and smart) granddaughters.
