Hector Lewis Roots
Hector “Roots” Lewis is an actor, Grammy-nominated musician and educator born and raised in the Caribbean island of Jamaica. His profound love for music began during his early days in his hometown parish of St. Catherine. His mother, the legendary Reggae songbird Barbara Jones, continues to have a major influence on his approach to music and the performing arts –honing his talent that boasts an eclectic blend of classic influences and modern sounds.
In 2024, Hector made his Hollywood acting debut in the highly anticipated biopic, Bob Marley: One Love, alongside Kingsley Ben-Adir in the lead role as the iconic singer and activist and Lashana Lynch as his wife, Rita Marley. Hector’s character, the legendary Carlton “Carly” Barrett - who was Bob’s long-time drummer - brings a parallel vision to Lewis’ own reality.
His multifaceted capabilities span several genres: including Latin, African, Kompa, Pop, Bouyon, Reggae, Calypso and Dancehall. Hector has a distinctive and creative ability to fuse these genres based on his vocal genius and is always looking for ways to create a new vibe with his musical passion. His debut EP, D’Rootsman was released in 2022 and reflects these synergies.
