Miss Kaninna at Lucille Front Yard
Miss Kaninna is a proud Yorta Yorta, Djadja Wurrung, Kalkadoon and Yirendali woman from lutruwita/Tasmania. Carrying forward the powerful storytelling of her ancestors, her art is a powerful expression of her experiences as a young Blak woman in so-called Australia, drawing from her rich cultural heritage.
Solidifying her role as “one to watch” following the release of her debut single 'Blak Britney', she gave one of the most talked-about performances at this year's Bigsound festival, shortly followed by the announcement of her nomination for “Best Song/Track” and “The Archie Roach Foundation Award for Emerging Talent” at the 2023 Music Victoria awards. An artist that pushes beyond the boundaries, her childhood musical theatre experience and genre-defying approach to performance provide a staunch and formidable foundation for a new artist with an urgency for change. Floating effortlessly between Hip Hop, Neo-soul, and indie Rock, Miss Kaninna arrives to claim BLAK POP in so-called Australia.
