Marcelo D2, a pivotal figure in contemporary Brazilian music, uniquely blends the robust beats of rap with the intricate allure of samba. A co-founder of Planet Hemp in the 1990s, Marcelo became a generational voice in Brazilian music, combining rock, rap, ska, and hardcore, with tracks symbolizing resistance and freedom. In 1998, Marcelo's solo album "Eu Tiro É Onda" began his trademark fusion of rap and samba, a style solidified in his 2003 album "À Procura da Batida Perfeita." His discography, including "Meu Samba é Assim" (2006), "Nada Pode Me Parar" (2013), "Amar É Para os Fortes" (2018), and “Assim Tocam os Meus Tambores” (2020), showcases his evolving artistry.
In 2022, D2 rejoined Planet Hemp for "Jardineiros," which won two Latin GRAMMYs. His 2023 solo album "IBORU" introduces "the new traditional samba", a new music and cultural movement.
