Yogetsu Akasaka at Central Presbyterian Church

Date TBA

Yogetsu Akasaka, known as the Beatboxing Monk, hails from Tokyo, Japan. Kickstarting his musical voyage in 2005 by beatboxing on London, Sydney, and NYC streets, he took a spiritual detour in 2015, becoming a Zen Buddhist Monk like his father. After 2.5 years of monastic life at Japan's Soto Zen Buddhism Monastery, he rekindled his musical flame. Now in Tokyo, Yogetsu melds Buddhist chants with live looping, beatboxing, handpan, and his resonant voice, forging a novel musical realm that marries electronic tunes with organic electronica and chants. This blend, aimed at guiding listeners to inner tranquility, caught fire during the pandemic, amassing 11+ million views and 200k+ followers. His musical concoction, dubbed a balm for mental wellness, gained global notice, featuring him in Vice Magazine and landing him a spot as an Official Selected Artist at SXSW 2023 and 2024. His tunes and way of life resonate worldwide, promoting mental health, happiness, and well-being. Post his trio of successful European tours in 2022, Yogetsu embarked on a maiden world tour in 2023, delivering his spiritually infused beatboxing globally, solidifying his standing as a trailblazer musically.
