N Nao
N NAO, born Naomie de Lorimier, is a Montréal-based singer-songwriter whose career amidst the Québec underground circuit evades even carbon dating. She explores experimental romance, using nature, images and sounds; her compositions achieved through a performative approach inspired by rituals. Between her youth and her passage into adulthood, she studied classical cello and singing, as well as jazz composition, leading to the self-release of a first album, À jamais pour toujours, in 2018.
In 2021, she took us deep into the depths of her utmost intimate EP, La plus belle chose, her ethereal voice mirroring the sky akin to the surface of a pond. She emerges for good with the release of her sophomore album, L’eau et les rêves (March 24th, 2023 via Mothland), co-produced with Jean-Bruno Pinard. On this forthcoming full-length, all at once mild and tempestuous, N NAO can count on contributions from Samuel on drums and Charles on guitar, also inviting Lysandre Ménard (Lysandre, Helena Deland) and Étienne Dupré (Duu, zouz, Klô Pelgag) to perform on keyboards and bass, respectively. A must-listen for fans of Jenny Hval, Grouper or Cocteau Twins.
