Climate change is altering the world we know and understand. With warming oceans, disruptive and extreme weather, and skies full of greenhouse gases, we need to quickly improve and deploy tools to observe and understand our changing world. Robots and artificial intelligence (AI) hold promise to revolutionize our understanding of the shifting global climate, from uncrewed vehicles to network sensors, deep-learning algorithms, and more. How can intelligent systems provide us the data we need to act today, limit climate change impacts, and make better predictions about the future? How can AI transform the way we study our Earth’s climate? How can robotics and AI lead us toward the brighter future we all seek?
