Releasing a Microbudget in a Cash-Strapped World

Recording: Releasing a Microbudget in a Cash-Strapped World, Date TBA

Making a "microbudget" independent film is challenging. Releasing it can be even trickier. This panel will explore the distribution options available to filmmakers who have little cash and little time. We will discuss DIY distribution versus working with a sales agent and/or distributor, and the steps that need to be thought of before cameras start rolling, incl marketing and social media. While the pandemic might have made distribution look unsustainable, opportunities do exist with exciting alternatives such as AVOD and the shake-up of release timelines, where the windowing of TVOD, SVOD, and AVOD can be interchangeable. The question is: what are the professional and emotional benefits in releasing one’s work at a time when distributors aren’t always putting a focus on independent film?
