In recent years, STEAM fields have been forced to confront their lack of diversity. When thinking about the influence that these industries have on our world, it is clear how detrimental it is for marginalized communities to not be represented in this work. While there are many barriers for LGBTQ individuals to access STEAM jobs and education, for those who do make it, they are often not guaranteed a safe or supportive work environment in which they can bring their authentic selves to work everyday. We propose a panel in which professionals from across the LGBTQ community and STEAM share their experiences, as well as their critical insights and expertise into how to make STEAM not only more diverse, but authentically supportive and empowering for workers from all marginalized backgrounds.
