Rethinking Public Space Meet Up
In this meetup, we will be sharing the ways we have experienced public spaces. These are the cultural experiences that shape our cities and communities. In Puerto Rico, La Perla has been used for Bomba for decades, and beaches reserved for parachuting and other sports. In Boston, improved bike lanes have led to a new generation of pedicabbers, and a reclaimed underpass in the South End has been used for raves. In Oakland, roller skating parties are hosted at Merritt Lake Boathouse and other spaces; the Panther Skate Project is requesting that the city contribute to a permanent rink in Defremery Park.
How is public space used in your community? How has your city been transformed, even for a few hours?
