The Rise, Fall and Rise of the Music Press is a deep dive into the cultural and social impact of music media and explores what defined the music press in the past and what will define it in the 21st century. From Rolling Stone and NME to The Face and Blender, the music press has helped define music’s meta-narrative from psychedelia to punk, reggae, heavy metal, hip hop and beyond. Then music media kinda lost its way. Or did it? This panel will discuss the influence of legacy titles and brands, celebrating some of those we lost along the way. It will cover the impact of new media, the rise and fall of the music blog, the dominance of streaming and concluding with a peek at the future of the music press including podcasting, global narratives and equality in music journalism.
