The New Demographic Reality and its Impacts
In just over a decade, there will be more people over the age of 65 than under 18 living in the United States. This is already a reality in over a third of counties and five states in the U.S., as well as a dozen countries.
This seismic shift in the demographic profile is leading the U.S. and other nations into the Super Age, a novel period where at least one out of five people will be over the traditional retirement age. This change in our populations is already having dramatic impact on social and economic norms, but there are significant implications for culture and politics too.
Business and government need to adapt to survive. This means that attitudes towards the age of workers and consumers will need to change, and social welfare systems will need to evolve to meet reality.
