How Songwriters Are Shaping Emerging Markets
In emerging markets like China, India and the Middle East, there is a popular misconception among both domestic and foreign songwriters that the only way to make money is to sell all the rights to their songs outright. This has led to a toxic "buy-out culture" where songwriters are routinely bullied or bamboozled into giving up their fair share of long-term royalty income. The global music creator community is currently re-evaluating the question of rights ownership, yet many assume that this can't (or shouldn't) apply to emerging music markets. During this panel, we'll hear from songwriters and publishers from around the world who are rejecting buy-out culture and working towards a more sustainable global song economy.
