Honoring Traditional Music in Video Game Scores
Western media has a long history of relying on stereotypes when incorporating the traditional music of non-Western cultures in a soundtrack. As global awareness and communication has increased, there have been calls for deeper and more authentic representation. This talk will examine how games have approached this from both a composer and performer perspective with some examples from games like Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons, Ghost of Tsushima, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and more.
