Shouldies at The Iron Bear
With a synthesis of goth, punk and techno, Shouldies has evolved their characteristic dark playfulness into a sincere critique of a world that treats people as disposable. Where their first record revels in the joys of queerness, their second explores the seedier sides of social power and scene dynamics. Nights that go on for too long. Gossip turned to fact. On ;), Shouldies maneuvers between front stage attitudes and closed door, hush-hush hearsay.
All the things that you know, they know, they know better / Who gave it all to who? (From ;)’s title track)
Delving into the sounds of techno, Atlanta-turned-Philly band Shouldies asks persistent questions under the seductive, colorful glitz of the dancefloor. Lush matrixes of beat and synth produced by Joshua Spelman-Hall (she/her) undergird iconic, sensual chant-vocals from lead singer and guitarist Yancey Ballard (they/them). Whatever the night, Shouldies will have you thumping and bumping with one eye over your shoulder.
