Yves Tumor, Kate Bush, Diamanda Galas are all attempts to explain hard-to-describe, multi-genre artist, Kristeen Young. But, they are wrong. You can’t find a comparison because there isn’t one, and isn’t that a nice change? She plays piano/keyboard in a dissonant bashing style, sings using a wide range with operatic vocals, and her lyrics eviscerate in a playful way like an afternoon with a Victorian child ghost. You’ll be dead but you will have enjoyed your own life’s kill.
Her newest album,The Beauty Shop, was written, arranged and produced by Young and mixed by Young and legendary Bowie producer, Tony Visconti. Each song has a video companion directed by Young, who also designed and made all the props and wardrobe.
Kristeen grew-up a foster/adopted kid in a difficult, working class home in St. Louis, Missouri. She has never been signed to a record label. Never had a manager. Never had “a team”. She, only within recent months, acquired a booking agent. Kristeen Young has always been DIY.
