Nine Mile / Merge Records / City Slang Presents
Austin record label and management company Nine Mile is entering it's 17th year helping independent artists get a leg up in the music industry. The label has a Central Texas heavy roster, releasing seminal records by Sweet Spirit, Shinyribs, Glorietta, Sir Woman, and Delta Spirit's Matthew Logan Vasquez (among others), and has won "Best Record Label" four times at the Austin Music Awards.
Merge Records is an independent record label based in Durham, North Carolina. Founded in 1989 by Mac McCaughan and Laura Ballance as a way to release songs by their own band, Superchunk, as well as the music of their friends, Merge has grown from a group of young musicians assembling 7-inch singles in Ballance’s bedroom to become one of the most influential independent record labels in the country. The Merge roster consists of more than 130 artists from all over the world whose music we release, promote, and distribute internationally, including Neutral Milk Hotel, A Giant Dog, the Mountain Goats, Fruit Bats, Dawn Richard, Destroyer, The New Pornographers, Carson McHone, and many more.
City Slang has been a European outpost for American indie music, a home-away-from-home, where innovative and pioneering artists have made their name in Europe. The records released through City Slang have helped shape and embellish the last three decades of alternative music. At the start of its fourth decade, the label network has grown with offices in Berlin, New York, London, and Paris.
