El Hula featuring Blair Jollands and Rose Spearman
The Guardian hailed El Hula’s debut LP HOTEL as Bizarre & Spectacular, THE NME and
UNCUT gave it 4 stars. Blair Jollands gave the project its name so that it’s releases would sit
real close to Elvis in the record stores. Released by Boy George on his label More Protein, as
was El Hula’s follow up LP Violent Love - produced by Gordon Raphael (The Strokes), also
received critical acclaim in the UK and Australasia. Boy George describes El Hula as ‘The
bastard son of Desi Arnaz and Jim Morrison with a shot of tequila!’. Singles Augustine &
Everything but You received plays across the BBC and US college radio plus had placements
on iconic TV series such as Teachers. There was a hiatus of several years between releases
while Jollands released several albums under his own name however 2023 sees the band
reforming, once again teaming up with Gordon Raphael, to produce El Hula’s upcoming Ep,
Hide No More, recorded with a 7-piece band live at legendary Dean Street Studios in Soho,
London. The current line up boasts Jollands on vocals, guitars and trumpet, Jonny Hillier on
Bass, vocalists Frankie David & Reniece Thomas, Gabriellle Pibretti (Stormzy) on baritone
sax, Jazz legend Fi
