Awaken will be a multi-faceted program experience that will open with a poetry performance followed by back to back intimate fireside chats with the lead artists and key collaborators of the virtual reality documentary On the Morning You Wake (to the End of the World). The performance portion will feature the spoken word that is heard throughout the virtual reality documentary. Following her performance, Dr. Jamaica will discuss the use of art and allegory to portray uncomfortable and traumatic experiences from an indigenous and queer lens. From there, the directors of the project will discuss how to balance the discomfort of exploring nuclear threat within a VR experience, how they collaborated with nuclear experts and local community members to retell the events of the Hawai’i.
