C’mon, Can Art Really Change the World?

Artists play an important role in activating change. Their work can empower the silenced, challenge the status quo, and disturb us, but it can also inspire us to envision the kind of world we want to live in. In this panel, hear how some European and American artists are using their creativity to engage with society and encourage civic action. This conversation is inspired by two larger-than-life pieces on display at the EU House: a 1.5-ton “LOVE HATE” ambigram sculpture by German artist Mia Florentine Weiss, and a 192-square-foot interactive chalkboard wall created by American artist Courtney Applequist.

Programming descriptions are generated by participants and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of SXSW.
