Streaming and the Changing Business Model
SAG-AFTRA members and industry experts discuss the central question of what the future holds for the actors at the heart of the productions feeding the ever-expanding appetite for streaming content. While streaming has been a boon for consumers and has democratized and diversified the stories, images and people we see on screen, the new business model raises significant economic challenges for the journeymen actors who form the backbone of our creative economy. Will streaming technology give rise to a "race to the bottom" in terms of actors' income — like technology has done in so many other industries — ultimately driving out talent and stifling creative endeavors, or can a more sustainable model be built to preserve this golden age of content?
